Dr. Eckhard C.A. Schwarz, born in Germany, earned a mechanical engineering degree at the University of Hamburg and a doctorate degree in chemistry from the McGill University in Montreal, Canada. From there he went on to work for companies like DuPont and Kimberly-Clark. In November of 1975 he founded Biax-Fiberfilm which had its beginnings in the basement of his home. In the 28 years that followed, Dr. Schwarz invented, patented, and manufactured high performance machinery for the nonwovens industry. Dr. Schwarz was awarded nearly 50 patents and had Biax-fiberfilm equipment in companies located in the United States, Europe, and Asia.

Dr. Schwarz had semi-retired for health reasons, he always continued in his goal of constantly improving Biax technology, both in developing new ideas as well as evolving what Biax already offered. His company meant a great deal to him. Dr. Eckhard C.A. Schwarz passed away on August 2, 2004. He worked as long as his health allowed and then set in motion a plan to permit his company to continue after his death.

In accordance with that plan, Douglas B. Brown has succeeded Dr. Schwarz as president of Biax-Fiberfilm Corporation. Mr. Brown has over 16 years experience with Biax-Fiberfilm. He is confident that with our existing meltblowing and web/film stretching technologies combined with new ideas currently being developed in our R&D Department on biodegradable microfibers and submicron fibers, Biax-Fiberfilm will remain an innovated company that would make Dr. Schwarz proud.
